This sequel to The Maze Runner effectively plunges its characters deeper into increasingly dark and twisted places that help train them for the ultimate test to be faced in the final installment. The continued portrayal of relationships as mutually respectful and fiercely loyal– absent of any hormone- fueled delusions– more than make up for the 1980s era fascination with juvenile swearing.
At this point, the series loses its innocence. Although, eventually, even Pinocchio can’t avoid the carnival. But far from Oz, deeper than Wonderland… The stakes are higher than ever; knowing that the fate of Humanity is on the line ratchets up the tension in this stunning cinematic adventure.
